Blessings Abound

Here's a post-Happy Birthday party crowd that celebrated Johnny Frazier and Veronica Rogers on Monday.

Dear Caldwell,

I’m pleased to note that Jimmy Todd underwent a successful procedure this morning at Mercy Hospital and is in recovery as I write, his faithful daughters waiting to see him . He will stay in the hospital one more day and then return home. To provide Jimmy some rest, the family requests no visitors or calls today and will update us tomorrow.

Also, I realize that not every one sees the Charlotte Observer every day so I wanted to provide a link to two important stories.

On Tuesday morning, reporter Mark Price wrote an update on the future of the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter at Caldwell. With the session’s approval, we’ve been working toward a new round of funding that would extend the shelter another 12 months. Current funding expires May 31. The story is here. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/05/10/2285352/overflow-shelter-may-close-this.html#storylink=misearch

Since the story ran, positive responses from significant funders have given us hope.  On a sheer human scale, a woman who read the story pulled up outside the church as I was getting out of my car yesterday. She handed me $60 and said, “This is for the shelter. I just wanted you to know that we appreciate what you are doing at Caldwell to help.” Thanks be to God.

Also, as predicted,  a majority of Presbyteries has approved new constitutional language concerning standards for ordination. The Observer carried that story on the front page today and you can read it here.http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/05/11/2287657/largest-presbyterian-group-clears.html

I trust everyone survived last night’s storms.

I’ll blog to you later.

In Christ,

John
