Dear Caldwell,
We are in for a treat on Sunday. Member Zach Thomas has worked tirelessly for the last three months to prepare our first “hymn sing” service. Informed by your input about favorite hymns and a deep understanding of the role of music to our faith, Zach has meticulously sewn together a wonderful service of worship that will flow as most Sundays but allow us to sing and sample a range of music. Rev. Rogers will preach a mediation entitled Unchained Melody and we will have some special guests. So come and make a joyful noise. I, for one, will have a bucket to carry my own tune (because I can’t without it) but that won’t stop me from singing to the rafters and beyond. Also this Sunday:
Elder Nominations: At the close of worship, we will have our annual (brief) congregational meeting to elect new elders. The nominees are: Kim Bohannon, Caroline (Cheek) Lublinkhof, Alex Smythers, Wilma Petty and Yvette Wilson. We are blessed to have a strong group willing to answer God’s call on their lives in this way.
Young Adult Lunch: Immediately after worship, all young adults (40ish and under) are invited to a fellowship lunch at VGBG at the NC Music Factory.
Caldwell Good News -CGN: The November edition is out and waiting for you to read it.
Sunday School: At 9:45 a.m., continued study of the thought-provoking Phoenix Affirmations.
Grief Workshop: The second of our series grief focuses on Grief Amid the Holidays. 6 pm in Shelby Room.
A quick word about pledges for Discipleship: Thanks to all those who have returned their pledges of time, talent and treasure for our ministries in 2013. We are running behind in the pace of pledge returns and need to hear from everyone in order to plan. PLEASE bring your pledge in and put it in with the offering plate. Extra pledge cards will be available on the table in the back of the sanctuary.
Caldwell in the News: Did you see the great profile of our own music and art teacher Jessica McQuillen? It’s here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/11/14/3665059/jessica-mcquillen.html#storylink=misearch
Also, the Observer reported on an interfaith panel on poverty in which I participated, reported here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/11/15/3668217/giving-of-themselves.html#storylink=misearch
Whew …. I am sure there is more to say (there always is with this church) but that’s enough for now.
See you Sunday.
In Christ,
John
