Caldwell Happenings

For Newtown and Others: Tyler Sinn helped collect 61 petition signatures as part of last Sunday's Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath. These will be combined with others to be sent to Capitol Hill. They were collected through the effort of 50 denominations and traditions as a witness to peace.

Dear Caldwell,

Let me catch you up on several items:

1. Tom Bohr continues to progress. I’ve come to think of this as a process of ‘rebooting’ several of his systems. His brain function continues to demonstrate strong recovery after his body was chilled following the heart attack. Kitty reports that he is even more conversant today that yesterday. Another system that is rebooting is his lung/breathing capacity. His lungs took on a heavier load immediately after the event. Combined with lots of various fluids being put into him, that caused a bit of a struggle last night with breathing but today is better.  He has been moved to the ICU that handles heart-related issues, as that is now the primary focus. Kitty and Stephanie appreciated the cards you sent and I can take more tomorrow if you want to drop them off at the church, perhaps tonight when we walk and pray for Tom, Kitty, daughter Stephanie and others.

2. Equally good news is that Chuck Atwell is headed home to Southminster today after three weeks at Mercy hospital. He has made excellent progress in recovering from a stroke with more work to do. Judy is pleased that he will be just over in the healthcare unit of their new retirement community, where he will continue rehab.

3. Jeff Sinn reports that 61 of you signed cards that will be a part of the petition to curb gun violence. That does not count those of you who did so online, as I did. What a remarkable statement of faith. Let us pray for the courage of our leaders in Congress to bring about a more peaceful nation.

4. Please join me in prayers of gratitude that the Presbytery of Charlotte this morning voted to bring on a new Transitional General Presbyter, the Rev. Betty Meadows of the Mid-Kentucky Presbytery. She begins in May as the regional executive for our 120-church Presbytery. Rev. Veronica Rogers served on the search committee and Kitty Bohr and I will have the privilege of working closely with her. Our Presbytery has turned the corner and is excited to move forward with her help and leadership.

Again, bring your prayers of praise and petition tonight at 6 pm for our contemplative prayer session in the sanctuary. Please welcome any visitors from Selwyn Presbyterian Church who may join us as friends of the Bohrs and Atwells.

I will write again tomorrow.

In Christ,

John
