Dear Caldwell,
Put on your best marching shoes. It’s almost Palm Sunday. Come Sunday, grab a palm and help us usher in the holiest week of the year.
It is, of course, a week of highs and lows for people of faith. In those swings from high to low to high again we are given time to consider the depth and breadth of our faith, just as Christ experienced the depth and breadth of his identity as our savior and messiah. We will begin a three-part sermon series on the “Anatomy of Christ” that will take us through Easter Sunday (with Maundy Thursday worship in between).
Also Sunday, as always, Caldwell House breakfast (7 am for prep and 8:30 to eat) and Adult Sunday School (9:45 a.m.) continues viewing its series on Jesus’ final hours.
Even before Sunday, all young adults (however you want to define yourself) will gather at the Lublinkhof’s Saturday night at 7 (2516 Elkwood Circle). Then the youth will gather at the same address Sunday night at 6 pm to begin planning our first Youth Sunday Worship Service.
As for Pastoral Care news, we rejoice that Tom Bohr continues his recovery, now in the cardiac ICU. Today he is sitting up in a chair, making jokes and working with his I Phone a bit. So, if you would like to send him a greeting, you can do so at tbohr@carolina.rr.com. The family is not quite ready for visitors yet. Also, we rejoice that Chuck Atwell has gone home to continue his stroke recovery there and Judy is delighted. Thanks to all who came last night to pray for the Bohrs, Atwells and others.
Please also pray for:
- Troy Bowles
- Julie Price and her family as they continue to care for her father, Herman.
- Caroline Cheek: Her sister’s fiancee is facing a bout with cancer.
- Maggie Devries and family
- Daisy Oatman and family
Finally, you are invited to take part in the event below:
In Christ, John
Mecklenburg Ministries, in partnership with many local congregations, HELP, NAACP and others invite the public to participate in a “Bloody Sunday Commemorative March” this Sunday, March 24. People will gather at 1pm at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, 727 W. Trade. At 1:30 we will have a silent march to the federal court house (2 ½ blocks) where we will pray and share a statement of purpose. Then participants will return to Mt. Moriah where several interfaith clergy and community leaders will speak in a short rally. Sunday’s march will commemorate the march 48 years ago that began on March 7, 1965 in Selma and did not successfully conclude until the marchers made it to Montgomery on March 24, 1965.
