Ministry in Mosaic

In a mosaic, individual pieces come together to form a larger picture.

Dear Caldwell,

Everywhere we look, it seems, we see signs of sweeping change, including the church at large. We are experiencing a time of “swirl,” where elements are coming together in new ways in our post-Modern, post-Christendom, post-denominational, post-traditional family-as-a-norm time. So much of the world as we have known it seems to be breaking apart. We know the pieces will come back together but the picture they form just isn’t clear to us, yet.

It’s in times like these that God gives us glimpses of what that picture will be. One of those glimpses comes tomorrow as our youth lead us in worship. These are the same young women and men who will lead the church in the not-so-distant future. How do they express their understanding of God in Christ, of what it means to be the body of Christ, of what it will mean in their lifetimes for the church to be the church?

Come tomorrow and find out. Come and see how the pieces of what is coming apart across society today will come back together to give us a new picture, as in a mosaic, which is the theme for tomorrow’s service. Come and see a glimpse of the church as it will be to them, if they have anything to say about it. I promise you will be well fed.

One other quick note. Today’s Observer carries a fine front-page story of the Charlotte Bilingual Preschool, one of our major ministry partners. Read it here.
