This Sunday, I am declaring the opening of a season within a season. We’re officially in the church season Eastertide, the season of celebrating the Easter truth of the Risen Christ leading to Pentecost, when we remember the arrival of the Holy Spirit. But we Presbyterians can give short shrift to the Holy Spirit, thinking about it ONLY on Pentecost Sunday. So this Sunday through Pentecost, June 8, I am declaring unofficially to be the Advent of the Holy Spirit. We give Advent five weeks to get ready for Christmas. We have 40 days of Lent leading to Easter. Let’s give the “advent” (which means ‘coming’) of the Holy Spirit its due, too.
