Dear Caldwell,
In respone to yesterday’s worship and some related requests and conversation, I wanted to share some additional General Assembly resources with you, in case you want to keep track. (As I noted, no major floor votes are scheduled until Thursday and Friday.)
Our Transitional General Presbyter Betty Meadows and other Charlotte commissioners will be blogging throughout the week. The first installment, which reflects on the first 24 hours of GA, is here:
Another piece of GA business that is getting a great deal of attention concerns PC(USA) investments in companies whose products or services are used by the nation of Israel in its struggle with Palestine. This is an enormously complex issue. One perspective was provided by Bishop Desmond Tutu. You can read it here.
Finally, in relation to the issue of same-gender marriage, the discussion has been taken up first at the committee level, which will last the next couple of days as it sorts out several options. If you want to follow the work of that committee, More Light Presbyterians is following it in a blog you can read here. If you are a real GA wonk, you can follow the business through the same online service the commissioners use, which you can view here.
Several of you have requested copies or recordings of yesterday’s sermon. We are working to post the text on the website and I will let you know when we have done so.
Please keep the entire process – and all perspectives – in prayer. I’ll blog again tomorrow.
In Christ,
John
