Things to be Thankful For

Dear Caldwell:

Grace and peace to you this midweek.  I bring some good news about several of our members.

Terry Nilles, who was hospitalized last weekend for eratic blood pressure, underwent a procedure Monday that found no major blockages in her arteries, eliminating one major concern. She remains in some discomfort but is back in the swing of things.  Also, earlier today Alice MacKay’s very young grandson, Aiden, underwent successful surgery on his spinal cord today and is resting comfortably as his spine heals. He will be in the hospital at Presbyterian for a few days recovering.

Both of these pieces of news brign us all relief and we pray that God will abide, as always, with these families as they recuperate.

We are also thankful for Fred Powers’ steady return of strength now that his chemotherapy has ended. Rumor has it that he was dancing up a storm at the fish fry last weekend. He claims he was motivated by the presence of all of the female company on the dance floor. Whatever it takes, Fred. Thanks be to God. The church staff took Fred, a de facto Buildings and Grounds manager around here, to lunch today to celebrate. Thanks to our multi-talented and always-thoughtful Leslie Gipple for arranging this time of fellowship.

Also thankful are the leaders and members of the Discipleship Committee.  The church family’s pledges of time, talent and treasure continue to come in, giving us great hope for continued ministry in 2011. If you have yet to respond, please do.

So on this beautiful Wednesday, I give thanks for all of you, remembering this verse from 1 Timothy:

“There is great gain in godliness combined with contentment.”

In Christ,

John
