Dear Caldwell,
I hope you are able to follow the Walking the Passion 2017 Facebook page each day, where members and staff of Caldwell and St. Luke’s are offering daily devotions through Lent.
It’s a wonderful way for our congregations to walk together even when we are not meeting together, to get to know each other’s perspectives, hopes and lives.
Caldwell’s Richard Harrison offers today’s word, below.
On Sunday, we will share communion and, in the sermon, consider what it means to be confessional, especially in these 40 days that lead to the cross. Scripture is Psalm 32 and Matthew 4:1-11.
Here is the link to Walking The Passon 2017 and Richard’s devotion for today us below.
Scripture – Read Philippians 4:1-9
Paul exhorts Titus to “encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” It may be difficult sometimes to reach our young people who are “too busy” to listen to someone older. Their mobile devices and headphones may make young people seem unapproachable.
So I speak and hearty “Hello” with a smile anyway. This way I might educate a young man or woman to the fact that though they sometimes may not think an older person would want to acknowledge that they’re a child of God, maybe a kind word or smile in passing just might bridge that gap. It certainly is a reminder that the Holy Spirit is always with me and that simple fact makes me smile!
Richard K. Harrison
