How Are You Walking the Passion?

“There are no mistakes. Only happy accidents.” The Gospel of Bob Ross

Dear Caldwell,

It was good to see some Caldwell folk at the Elizabeth Communities of Faith Wednesday service today, a much-needed midweek respite for all who attend.

"There are no mistakes, only happy accidents" -- Bob Ross. Well, it ain't exactly the gospel but a good thought anyway.

Well, it ain’t exactly the gospel but a good thought anyway.

As we travel from Sunday to Sunday this week, we move from thinking about “The Joy of Confession” (not necessarily like The Joy of Painting, lol) to the first of three stories about compelling figures we will meet in the Gospel of John in the weeks to come. This Sunday, we are introduced to the Pharisee Nicodemus, a figure who starts out literally “in the dark” about who Jesus was. His journey with Jesus ends in an unexpected way; he is the one who buys Christ’s burial tomb as a show of respect. As with Nicodemus, we walk these Lenten weeks beginning in one place and ending in quite another. If we are fortunate, we come as far as Nicodemus ultimately did in learning about what God was up to in Jesus. That is our invitation to walk the passion.

Part of that invitation is to walk together as a faith community. One of your session’s highest priorities this year is to deepen relationships within and across the congregation. To help with that, elders are hosting dinners this weekend and next. It’s a great way to mix us up and make new friendships. We have about 20 seats at dinners this weekend and next. You can sign up here … or email coordinator Peg Robarchek at coachpeg@aol.com to find a seat. Kids welcomed!

If you want to make room for all that good eating, why not pitch in with the garden workday Saturday here on campus 9 a.m. to noon to work off a few calories .

I hope you are partaking of our daily Lenten devotionals – click here for a new perspective each day.

Go ahead and make a note – we “spring forward” on the clocks this weekend.

In Christ,

John
