The week that was, and is about to be, again

Dear Caldwell,

Holy Week begins Sunday with Palm Sunday. It is a week of extremes, a week that calls us to explore the full range of our faith, its depth and its breadth, as we reconcile ourselves, each in our own way, to what the world did to Christ. It begins, of course, with Jesus sending two disciples into Jersualem to find a donkey and a colt, after which events seem to rush headlong to the cross and the tomb. We remember, with such mixed feelings, the triumphant shout of hosanna that is followed by the crowd yelling, “Crucify him!”

At Caldwell, it’s become our custom to find strength and community on Palm Sunday through fellowship. George Michie and his fearless crew of kitcheneers have planned a feast. Come one and all, and bring a friend, at 9:45 Sunday morning. When you get to the sanctuary, look for the April edition of the church newsletter, Caldwell Good News!. It’s got some great reflections from members about Easters past here at Caldwell and some marvelous news about our very own Mary Carol Michie.

Please also note that because of ominous weather we have postponed our workday in the playground of the Caldwell Bilingual school, which was to be tomorrow. The new date is Saturday, May 7.

On May 1, Caldwell will be one of many congregations called together in a service of prayer for the  children of our city. The event will be at Covenant Presbyterian at 6:30 pm and our choir will be featured. Mark your calendars for that.

We rejoice that both Jimmy Todd and Johnny Johnsonn continue to regain strength. Johnny hopes to be in church on Sunday. Please keep Richard Campbell in your prayers as he and his doctors plot a course to deal with some heart issues. Linda Horton is working hard in physical therapy after a knee replacement

See you Sunday, when we begin the momentous events of the Passion.

In Christ,

John
