Gratitude to God: See It … Say It

Have you taken a moment to review your stewardship materials and ask how you will respond to God's grace and abundance in your life?

Dear Caldwell,

Perhaps you’ve heard my theory that God’s favorite number is three. (If you haven’t, let’s talk. I can make a strong case!)

That theory pops up again as we move through Stewardship Season to raise the 2019 church budget. We are doing so in three steps – the three steps that, according to Thomas Aquinas, constitute a full response to God’s grace.

We “see it” – all that we have to be thankful for.

We “say it” – we tell others about the abundance of all that is good in our lives that comes from God.

We “share it” – we demonstrate our gratitude by being generous in all aspects of our lives.

Last Sunday, Gail preached a powerful message titled “Do you see what I see?” as she encouraged us to open our eyes. This Sunday, we are deeply blessed to welcome Charlotte’s inspiring new General Presbyter (regional leader), Rev. Dr. Jan Edmiston.

Rev. Dr. Jan Edmiston is Charlotte's new General Presbyter, with responsibility for helping inspire, support and lead our region's 100 Presbyterian congregations.

Jan is a change agent who has “seen” all that God is doing to activate our denomination coast to coast. Surely she will “say” what she has seen of God’s transformation of the church.

This is a “don’t miss” Sunday. We will hear from a member as she shares all that she is grateful for and how she is responding in her life. Also, we will “speak” some of your own prayers of gratitude that you wrote down and put into our “gratitude jar” Sunday.

All of this, I hope, makes stewardship joyful and life-giving for us as a family of faith that has received so very much from our Lord. I hope you are taking time to review the materials in your pledge packet and prayerfully considering how to give back what originally comes from God.

THANK YOU to the two dozen households that have already pledged. If you are ready, you can join them by clicking here to make an online pledge. Otherwise, please plan to bring your confidential pledge card on Commitment Sunday, Oct. 28.

Yours In Christ,

John
