Holy Week and Spring Shoots

Caldwell Family:

Greetings to all in the middle of this Holy Week. So many of you have been busy in the last few days – with the special joint choir performance Sunday night, Sue Aivaz’s memorial service on Tuesday and the last of our Lenten Service and Lunch series today. Thanks to all who have contributed – a special thanks to the choir, which sings five times in these eight days! Surely Sue Aivaz was surrounded by angels, all listening in yesterday when the choir sang “O Happy Day” with such love.

Tomorrow is Maundy Thursday, the beginning of the three days when we remember Christ’s passion. The word “maundy” comes from the latin for the English word ‘mandate’ or command, as this is the night when Christ gathered with his disciples for the last time before his arrest and gave the new commandment to love one another. I hope you can join us for this special worship service here tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

All around us, Spring gives us its own signs of rebirth and new growth. The same is happening at Caldwell, where eight new members joined in March. We rejoice in the decision to join the church by four young people who have been in confirmation class since December. This class is for them to think carefully about ‘confirming’ their baptism and taking their place as adult members. They are: K.K. Curtis (daughter of Ruth and Jim), Dominick Richard (son of Shawanda Jones and grandson of Ruby Jones) and Sophia and KristinGrace Weiss (daughters of Susan Gover and step-daughters of Andy Baxter). We will recognize and celebrate this major step for them during Sunday’s Easter service.

Four others joined the church last Sunday as well – Carol King, Kraig and Amy Magas (with children Jack and Bennett) and Nickie Pegan. We look forward to deepening our relationships with all of them. As Spring flowers around us, we give thanks for these new shoots here at Caldwell.

See you soon. John
