Deal Caldwell:
The campus is a bit of a hornet’s nest today. Our contractor, Mobile Construction, is finishing up with the upfit of the showers. The Salvation Army shelter staff is here for training for how the Caldwell Shelter will run. They are also moving in cots and supplies. A locksmith is here to ensure we have secure operations. Nancy Faires has been here this week adding some beautiful and inspirational art work to the shelter space. A friend of the church, Byron Baldwin, is back from Troutman where he picked up shelving donated by Farris Ervin Enterprises that will support a new food pantry for the Bilingual Preschool and the Shelter. Leslie, our office manager, is juggling more than her usual share of balls while, happily, Veronica and Danny are here in their offices making calls and preparations for other aspects of our life together. Whew. What have I left out?
Want to see the results? On Sunday after worship, we will hold an open house for the Shelter upstairs and the Preschool downstairs. Please make plans to tour both floors of the Price Building to see how God is using our old and ample campus. Bring a friend to church to show them, too.
By now, members and friends of Caldwell should have received a packet of materials that frame our Discipleship 2010 season of discernment as each of us considers all that we have been blessed with and how we will respond to God with our commitments. As I said Sunday, I hope you will pray over these materials as you prepare to bring them to church Sunday, September 26 – when we will collectively and individually pledge our time and talents to God’s work here. This Sunday on worship, Veronica Rogers will continue our focus on the two aspects of discipleship, what it means to be called and to be sent.
We continue to pray for Madison Dyson, granddaughter of Carol Williams, Richard Campbell, who is recovering from surgery, as well as Marilyn Rowland, whose knee was operated on this week.
Peace be with each of you.
John
