You are the salt of the earth.

Hello Caldwell:

That phrase – the title above – is one of the most well-known in all of scripture. Many Americans use it regularly without even knowing it comes from scripture. Of all of Jesus’s sayings, it is among  the most well documented as coming from the historical Jesus. But do we know – really – what it means? Yes, it has taken on colloquial meaning. But Jesus meant far more than meets our 21st-century ear.

Come Sunday and we will explore just what Jesus meant about his disciples and how it relates to our lives, especially as we consider our own discipleship and bring our pledges of time and talent to God’s purposes. So, don’t forget your Commitment of Calling pledge form. If you need another, look under “resources” on the church website.

At 10:00 a.m. Sunday in the Shelby Room (in lieu of Sunday school), you can also join us for conversation with Mary Mikhael, who leads a seminary in Beiruit, Lebanon. (And you think your job is stressful!) Our prayers remain with Madison Dyson, granddaughter of Carol Williams. Richard Campbell is recovering from surgery, as is Marilyn Rowland.

Please warmly greet any of our shelter guests who may join us on Sunday (of course you will :-)).

In Christ,

John
