The Spirit Blows Where it Will

Dear Caldwell,

Don’t you wish you could recapture that elation we all felt as children on the last day of school? I do. But, I’ll take 5:00 on Friday afternoon as a decent substitute.

Tomorrow, the Men of Caldwell are invited to join the men of Bread of Life Christian Ministries for a prayer breakfast and program at Caldwell in Belk Hall at 8. In the afternoon, our devoted Godly Play teachers and leaders are meeting to plan the next steps of that wonderful approach to teaching our youngest children Bible stories and how God is revealed in them.

There is growing interest in what God is doing here at Caldwell and, on Sunday, we will have a video crew present to help capture the “spirit” here. Please note the sanctuary will be closed for some pre-worship taping until 10:30 a.m.

Appropriately it is Pentecost Sunday, when we celebrate God’s sending the Holy Spirit into the world. Most often, we associate that story with the book of Acts in the New Testament. But the Spirit blows through the Old Testament, as well. On Sunday, we will delve into a story of surprise and wonder from the Old Testament, specifically Numbers 11:24-30. We will also celebrate the arrival of 5 new members, pictured above.

A final note: I want to thank Manley Roberts, Thomas Moore and the Caldwell choir members who joined the choir from St. Martin’s Episcopal for the memorable memorial service for Eileen Montgomery held Wednesday. As we have experienced so often at Caldwell, our choir helped lift everyone’s spirits just when it was needed. At the appropriate time, the choir hit full stride and, ‘lo and behold, hands were clapping as folks shuffled up to the Anglican rail for Holy Communion. Thanks to them and thanks be to God.

To all of our kids (of all ages), Happy Summer!

In Christ,

John
