Today, a silent Caldwell friend was laid to rest. Joe Grier was a devoted Presbyterian, civic champion and founding partner of one of Charlotte’s most important law firms. Mr. Grier touched many aspects of life in Charlotte. I was informed by Rev. Charlie MacDonald, who preceded me, that he also “gave many thousands of dollars” to support Caldwell church in its most “dire” times. We give thanks for Mr. Grier, his generosity and his friendship with Charlie MacDonald, and we pray that God’s peace will settle on the Grier family in this time of loss.
Now we carry on the ministry that Mr. Grier and others helped make possible. On that note, a gentle reminder: The church closes its books at the end of this week. If you have an outstanding balance on a 2010 pledge, please fulfill it this week. The church office will be open Wednesday through Friday. A check received this coming Sunday will be too late to count for 2010.
It has been a year when the church has had many needs to meet and we are trying to avoid an operating deficit for the year. Leslie, our faithful office manager, can help with any information you need beginning tomorrow. She can be reached at admin@caldwellpresby.org or at 704-334-0825.
I’ll be back in touch before the end of the week. Until then, grace and peace,
In Christ,
John
