Dancing the Decalogue

Come and Celebrate

Dear Caldwell,

In the various things I’ve read about the Ten Commandments in these last weeks, I even came across something that describes the Decalogue in terms of dancing. From a Christian Century piece by Tom Long:

“If we want to symbolize the presence of the Ten Commandments among us, we would do well to hold a dance. The good news of the God who set people free is the music; the commandments are the dance steps of those who hear it playing. The commandments are not weights, but wings that enable our hearts to catch the wind of God’s Spirit and to soar.”

With that in mind, let us DANCE. I hope to see you all as we celebrate the gift of our fellowship and comapny together in   God’s service – tonight, 7:30-10:30, Broach Hall, St. John’s Baptist Church. Tickets available at the door. There will be food to refuel us.

Let us then carry forward our dance toward Sunday morning, where we will worship as another way of giving thanks. In the sermon, we will consider commandments 6-10, those that frame life in community. They have a lot to say about how we come to understand what is, or should be, enough – for us and, in turn, for others.

See you then and there.

Peace,

John
