Dear Caldwell,
A week ago I began this blog noting the events of that morning, the earthquake and tsunami that hit the coast of Japan. It’s been a harrowing week since. Today, I heard a news anchor interviewing a psychologist about the emotional impact of the disaster; they were talking about the Japanese, but on a broader scale they might have been referring to the rest of the world. Nuclear meltdowns, ongoing revolutions and the response of violent oppression, no-fly zones and the economic impact of it all, lost jobs, increasing consumer prices, etc. Then I noticed the little flower in the photo that has popped up here at the church, under a big arrow that might be reminding us all to look up in times like these. New life and praise for it, and we return to our Lenten walk.
This Sunday holds many joys:
Bilingual worship with our friends from the bilingual preschool, all orchestrated by Zach Thomas. The children will sing new songs they have learned just for church, we will try out some new music and then we will enjoy fellowship together afterward at a covered dish luncheon. Before church, the Sunday school will continue its look at how the different gospels describe Christ’s passion. And Sunday night we will wrap up the Eyes on the Prize dialogues.
We give thanks that both Jimmy Todd and Johnny Johnson are out of the hospital and that a lovely couple will be wed at Caldwell tomorrow. The organist is downstairs practicing now and our old organ can still make the building come alive. I am probably forgetting several things worth noting but it’s late and it’s been a long, good-busy week.
See you Sunday,
John
