A Sower Went Out to Sow ….

"Some seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop ...."

Dear Caldwell,

I hope you’ve had a good week and are headed toward some rest this weekend. I’ve heard good things about worship last Sunday and am grateful to Jeff Mitchiner for so ably leading worship in my  absence and hosting our guest preacher, Grier Booker Richards.

In worship on Sunday, we will explore one of Jesus’ parables from the Gospel of Matthew, the parable of the Sower in chapter 13: 1-9 and 18-23. As with any parable, we should be cautious before drawing any absolute conclusions about what the parable means. As with any parable, getting there is half the fun. The adult Sunday School at Caldwell continues to look into prayers of the Old Testament–this week, we’ll consider David’s prayer(s)–2 Samuel 7:18-29.

Also on Sunday, immediately after worship, the Mission and Justice Committee will host a lunch dialogue about creating a domestic mission trip to pair with our bi-annual trips to Guatemala. This is an important effort to define a mission trip experience available to those who cannot go to Guatemala, including our youth. All are invited but please send an RSVP to susanpierson@gmail.com today so she can make meal arrangements.

Please note that the Newcomers Luncheon has been moved to Sunday the 17th.

Pastoral concerns: Keep the Allen-Slattery family in prayer as Patrick’s mother faces some health issues along with Donna Price and Caldwell friend Ryan Dennison, who broke two bones at his ankle.

Finally, the choir has seen this video but not the congregation. It’s a video promoting a national conference that is coming to Charlotte. I’m grateful to Thomas and the choir for lending their lovely and enthusiastic voices to this effort to promote multicultural churches. You can watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2eIfpIpMfE&feature=email

I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

In Christ,

John
