Dear Caldwell,
There has always been a strong connection between religion and archeology. I was reminded of that this week. In the space where we house the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter, Buildings and Grounds Chair Tom Bohr has been working with a crew to tear up a musty old carpet, archeology of a sort. At Caldwell, it’s always an adventure into the unknown when we get into a project like that. This time, Tom had to uncover not just one but two layers of old carpet to get to his goal, a beautiful oak floor that is now in the process of being sanded and restored. At once, our old campus is a step closer to renewal and, more important, our guests will have a fresh, clean space for sleeping.
The fresh experience here stretches over to Sunday morning as we welcome our sister congregation from Bread of Life in worship. Please welcome them with a strong dose of Caldwell hospitality. We will blend elements of their service with ours. Come early, not just to get a seat but to hear some great music by their singers starting at 10:45 a.m. You won’t be disappointed. Our scripture is Matthew 13:24, the parable of the weeds and the wheat. As with archeology, it takes a little digging but the effort leads to a message that is as timely and poignant for us as it was for another community a long time ago.
Also Sunday, the Helen Hull leads the Adult Sunday School class in a look at a powerful prayer by Solomon (1Kings 3:5-15), there will be another Newcomer lunch immediately following worship. Join in the fun to get to know some new faces. And don’t forget to look for the July edition of the Caldwell Good News! newsletter.
Enjoy your weekend. See you Sunday,
In Christ,
John
