Dear Caldwell,
Ever just want to run away and hide? Just tell God and everyone else, “That’s it. I’m out!” Given 2020, I’d wager to say we’ve all had a moment like that, or something close to it.
So did the prophet Elijah. He had, by his own description, been “very zealous” for the Lord, trying to get his people to stop worshiping false Gods and turn back to the one true God who loved them. But then he hit the proverbial wall and “bailed” on his ministry and prophecy, running to be alone in the mountains. That’s where he learned a good lesson; wherever you go, God will find you.
That story in 1 Kings 19:9-18 will be the subject of the banter on the Preachers’ Porch tonight at 7. Come and hang out with us.
Say Thanks Be To God for Sarah
Our city will gather tomorrow to give thanks for the remarkable life and witness of God’s servant, daughter of Caldwell, Sarah Belk Gambrell. You can watch that service here online at 10 am Wednesday, Aug. 5, or come back to that site later to view it.
Thanks Be for You
Meanwhile, thank you to all who have reached out to help and support Wilma’s family – through prayer, signing up to bring meals or offering financial assistance for the family and for Tatyanna as she returns to college at Fayetteville State University. You have shown the love of Christ. Still no plans for a service as of now. Stay tuned. Click here to help with meals for daughter Sade Petty and family. Contact Rick Rogers in the church office if you want to donate to the Benevolence Fund – 704-333-0825 or do it online here (mark Benevolence Fund).
May the Lord be with you there. And, as Gail reminded us Sunday, let us continue to find comfort in community (and keep some duct tape handy, just in case something needs fixing).
In Christ,
John
