A Caldwell Wrap-Up

Dear Caldwell,

There’s been a nip in the air this week and, after one of the most gorgeous autumns in my memory, the rain has pushed the trees to shed more of their leaves this week. The Red Maple tree in front of the church is thought to be one of the oldest in the city and it has given us a beautiful red carpet for welcoming members, friends and guests.

Many of us are still aglow from last week’s ordination service for Veronica Rogers. She will serve Caldwell 25 hours a week, focusing most on pastoral care and worship but also supporting and serving a number of other aspects of life here. I share that so that you will know the scope of her role and ministry.  We are so deeply blessed to have her as a pastor to this congregation.

I am glad to report that Jimmy Todd is out of ICU and in a regular hospital room at Mercy as he continues his treatment for emphysema. His spirit is strong and he is looking forward to returning home soon. On another pastoral note, many of those who worshipped at Seigle Avenue are grieving the loss of Zondra Douglas, whose service is tonight. We join them in mourning this poignant loss and take comfort in the promise of the resurrection. We also hold Annie Cox in prayer as she has just returned from another trip to New York to manage affairs related to the loss of her beloved aunt. Annie has had to do a lot on a broken foot and we pray for its healing.

New member Michael Wingate (center) with Elders Richard Campbell and Tom Bohr.

Caldwell became one member stronger last Sunday when Michael Wingate was received by the session. I am grateful to have gotten to know Michael and I look forward to his presence, witness and wisdom among us.

This Sunday we will wrap up our consideration of the Great Commandment with a look at Mark’s account of that story. This Sunday also concludes the liturgical year. It’s called Christ the King Sunday. an occasion to remind ourselves who is king in our lives and whose kingdom we serve.

On that note, last Sunday I mentioned a family in need – two children, 12 and 4, who need basic clothing and school supplies. If you are interested in helping please call me.

We will hold a brief congregational meeting at the close of worship Sunday to elect those who are being nominated to serve as elder. Also, November’s edition of the Caldwell Good News! will be out this Sunday so please look for it.

See you then.

In Christ,

John
