A Friend Lost

Dear Caldwell family,

It is with a heavy heart that I relay to you the passing of our sibling in Christ Leroy Stinson, who died at home this morning from complications from cancer.

Leroy Stinson
Leroy Stinson

Leroy was a stalwart of the church, a faithful usher, a member of the Congregational Life Committee and a friend to many. His cheerful and loving spirit endeared him to all. In more recent years, he traveled on several mission trips. He was a member of Seigle Avenue Presbyterian Church for many years before coming to Caldwell.

Gail and I spent time with him yesterday, reading scripture and praying. Plans for celebrating Leroy’s life are pending and will be communicated when they are decided.

We find comfort in Christ’s words, “I am the resurrection and the life” and I am sure that he was greeted in the church triumphant with the words we all seek to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Below is a resolution passed by the session in honor of Leroy.

In Christ,

John

WHEREAS, Leroy Stinson joined the Presbyterian Church (USA) at Seigle Avenue Presbyterian Church as a young teenager, and

WHEREAS, Leroy has faithfully served the church throughout his years as a member of both Seigle Avenue and, since 2006, Caldwell Presbyterian, and

WHEREAS, Leroy has served as an usher, a member of the Congregational Life  Committee and has helped advance the church’s mission in the city and the world as far as Guatemala, and

WHEREAS, Leroy has also modeled the virtues of hard work, industry and self-reliance for his entire life, and

WHEREAS, Leroy has also been loving and faithful to his family, and

WHEREAS, Leroy was duly elected to serve as an elder and officer of the church, beginning in 2020, and

WHEREAS, Leroy has demonstrated energy, imagination, intelligence and love in balancing his gentle spirit with an unwavering commitment to worship, justice and building up the church in all ways,

the Session of Caldwell Presbyterian Church hereby resolves to hold an honorary seat for Leroy  for the term of what was to be his elected term of office AND also resolves to call on his spirit and guidance in all of its deliberations as the body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ within the walls of the church and as far as its ministry reaches.

So approved, this day, April, 28, 2020.
