Advent of the Holy Spirit

??????????
This month we welcome “new members” in the persons of our 2014 Confirmation Class, who have accepted the call to become full members as adults in the church. Congratulations Jermaine Johnson, Destiny Gloyd, Jett Russell, Parker Bergeron and Gabe Russell.

Dear Caldwell,

This Sunday, I am declaring the opening of a season within a season. We’re officially in the church season Eastertide, the season of celebrating the Easter truth of the Risen Christ leading to Pentecost, when we remember the arrival of the Holy Spirit. But we Presbyterians can give short shrift to the Holy Spirit, thinking about it ONLY on Pentecost Sunday. So this Sunday through Pentecost, June 8, I am declaring unofficially to be the Advent of the Holy Spirit. We give Advent five weeks to get ready for Christmas. We have 40 days of Lent leading to Easter. Let’s give the “advent” (which means ‘coming’) of the Holy Spirit its due, too.

radiator movers
What do you do when you have 4,000 pounds of iron to move?
1. Ask Buildings and Grounds Chair Jim Curtis to figure it out.
2. Call the Panthers offensive line? NO! Call the Caldwell hulks.
Jim Curtis reports: The radiators in the sanctuary had previously been disconnected by United Mechanical. It was important that they be removed prior to the painting and carpeting work upcoming. The five large radiators weight about 750 lbs each, plus a couple smaller ones at 400. There was no way to safely break them apart so we got a team and some equipment together to move them whole. Syd Howell, Scott Creigh, Scott Walls, Greg Shell and myself got together. Syd brought a hydraulic car jack. Scott Walls brought a pallet jack and this impressive prybar on wheels used in his commercial plumbing business. An appliance dolly worked for the smaller radiators. Between the five people and 4 tools we were able to move each radiator out of the sanctuary and down the handicap ramp without ever having to lift anything. The goal was to just get two of them out that evening, but the second one went so smoothly that we all decided to get them all removed. They will be hauled off for metal recycling next week. Is there anything Caldwell folk can’t do??

Let’s get the conversation started!

See you Sunday.

In Christ (through the Spirit),

John
