This Sunday we will celebrate All Saints Day in connection, as we have done for several years, with the Latino tradition of the Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos. We blend these traditions to recognize that we follow in a long line of saints and souls who have served the church and, in our increasingly multicultural era, we do so by exploring new cultural traditions. You are invited to bring an item or memento that connects you to a lost love one or friend and place in on the Ofrenda as we give thanks for the gift of their lives. We will also celebrate communion as part of that “communion of Saints” that reaches across time and space.
But first, turn your clocks back an hour!
Also Sunday: The session will meet immediately after worship to receive new members who would like to make Caldwell their church home. The Adult Christian Education class continues its study of the Heidelberg Confession at 9:45 a.m. (Price Building Parlor, as last week). Children’s classes and the nursery will also remain in the Price Building. If you didn’t have the chance to experience worship in Belk Hall, please come and join in this new experience for all of us. It’s great to have a new perspective on things.
We are praying for: Linda Matney (continued recovery from back surgery); John Crowell (finger); Rev. Evie Landrau (in S. Korea for an ecumenical meeting); Robert and his mother Delores McLendon (pneumonia); the family of Danny Peek, who died, a friend of the Gardner family; Daisy Oatman and her grandson Naije and family; Jackie Abernethy’s continued recovery.
Discipleship: We continue to receive pledges of time, talent and money and are making great progress toward a budget for 2014. However, we are still looking for pledges from many who pledged last year. Remember, every pledge matters. You can do it quickly online here: http://www.caldwellpresby.org/discipleship2013/
Enjoy this beautiful weather and see you soon.
In Christ,
John
