Dear Caldwell,
Ask anyone on the church staff and you will hear that, without a doubt, there are angels among us. These angels are tending to the details of church life together, from baking cookies to counting the collection to caring for neighbor. The thing about angels is that they are easy to miss. But their presence is felt if you know what you are looking for.
Plans are set to celebrate the life of one of Caldwell’s greatest angels, Jackie Abernethy, who went on to see her Lord face to face last week. Her service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Caldwell, followed by a reception. It will be well worth attending, even if you didn’t know Jackie. Without her and a few others, who opened their hearts, faith and church to strangers, as Jesus instructed, the rest of us wouldn’t be here.
On Sunday, we will hear about another angel, the one who visited Joseph with news that his girlfriend would bear a son that wasn’t his but God’s. Our Advent theme is “Repeat the Sounding Joy.” I am sure Joseph eventually got to joy over this news but only after having to move through a lot of other emotions. Gail will preach on this story in Matthew 1:18-24.
A few other notes:
- We need help decorating our Chrismon Tree and putting up a few other Advent decorations. Please let Anne know if you can be here, even if for an hour, at ahuntereidson@caldwellpresby.org. The crew starts at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.
- As the year moves to a close, please attend to your pledge balance so we can start 202o on the right note. Questions? Contact Rick in the church office at RRogers@caldwellpresby.org
- Please be aware that the intersection of Hawthorne and Fifth will be closed except for Sundays beginning next week. Just in case it’s needed, here is a map that shows ways around the blockage.
Watch for more details in Caldwell This Week.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
In Christ,
John
