Dear Caldwell,
Ever since last Thursday night’s Vespers, I’ve been thinking about this line from the psalm we studied, Psalm 16:
“The boundary lines for me have fallen in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage.”
No doubt, those words were written by someone in far different circumstances than what we are experiencing these days. I don’t know about you, but I am getting mighty weary of the boundaries that surround me. Still, I try to call on my “goodly heritage” as a child of God for strength and comfort.
This time of being separated from each other is hard. I pray you, too, are able to find new ways of living within our current boundaries, including life in the Lord. What we can count on as Easter people is that nothing in life or death can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:28).
Tonight’s vespers at 8 p.m. will look at Psalm 116. Check your Tuesday email for the link. (Sorry, but we are having to be unusually careful about when and how we share these links.) Email me if you need the link for tonight again.
Otherwise, in the life of the church, we have a special event Sunday night at 6:30 via Youtube, an hour or so with Dr. Mary Gail Frawley O’Dea, a mental health expert. PLEASE EMAIL ME – JCleghorn@caldwellpresby.org – with any general questions you may have for her. I will share them with her in advance. We will also try to take questions during the session via YouTube chat. This is a chance for us all to fill our wells for coping as we move through this season of physical (but not spiritual) separation and isolation.
If you’d like to get our on Saturday, Helen Hull will be at the church again, 2-4 p.m., collecting food and other items to help the neighbors at McCreesh Place, one of our two partners in our HOME initiative, get through these hard times. Fresh veggies, canned good, antiseptics are needed.
Finally, we will hear an update from Gov. Cooper this afternoon about the next phase of restrictions. Please know your session will be discussing what is best and safest for all – WHILE we continue to share and enrich our lives together online, with phone calls and prayers.
Watch for Caldwell This Week on Saturday.
In Christ,
John
