Dear Caldwell,
Tomorrow will be a joyously busy day at Caldwell:
Before worship, breakfast and devotion with our neighbors from Caldwell House starting at 8:30 (prep starts at 7:00) and Sunday School in the Shelby Room, entering a second week of study of the importance of “sabbath” in our lives.
In worship, we welcome new members in addition to offering our prayers and songs of praise. The sermon will focus on 1 Kings 19:4-8, the story of the prophet Elijah and how he is met by God at a moment when the world seems just too much for him. He sits under a broom tree and asks God to take him, With all that has happened in our world in the last month, it’s a great story about alternate endings and how our God equips us to go on when we have have nothing left. After worship, we will celebrate Susan Pierson as she heads west to begin seminary in California.
At 4 p.m., Caldwell will again host a gospel music service to support those individuals and families that are affected by MS. This is an annual highlight and always a learning experience. Our choir and another will sing.
The photo above is from the camera of Veronica Rogers. It is from the service of support and solidarity held with our Sikh brothers and sisters. Theirs is a beautiful and honorable tradition that is guided by three daily principles:
1. Work hard and honestly
2. Always share your bounty with the less fortunate.
3. Remember God in everything you do.
Words to the wise. Amen.
See you tomorrow.
In Christ,
John
