Celebrating Gail and More

Dear Caldwell,

We’re off to an early start for the week in our life together. Please review these updates and may the Lord be with you through the week.

  • Gail will be examined on “the floor” of tomorrow’s Presbytery meeting as a last step in her preparation for ministry under the governance of the Presbyterian Church USA. This is a separate process from earning her Master of Divinity and is required for all who become ordained pastors in our denomination.  If you’d like to be present to support her, the meeting starts with worship at 9:30 a.m. and Gail’s section should be about 10:30 a.m. Please keep this information within the Caldwell family.

  • Preacher’s Porch – Ascension of the Lord: Tuesday at 7 p.m. we will gather to take a look at Acts 1:1-11, Luke’s account of the resurrected Christ’s final words and what the disciples do after he is taken to God. See Saturday’s Caldwell This Week for the link.
  • Leroy Stinson’s service: The family has arranged for Leroy’s Memorial Service to be held this Saturday- open casket visitation at 12:30 and service of worship at 1 p.m. We are looking into how it will be made available online. Stay tuned.
  • Yesterday’s Worship: If you missed our Sunday worship for any reason, you can find it on our website anytime. Ignore the “video unavailable” message and click on the button that transfers you to our Youtube Channel. Click here for yesterday’s service.

As I said in my sermon yesterday, the week will no doubt bring moments of both encouragement and discouragement as we make our way in these pandemic days. Know that the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, abides with you, try to be a voice for good and keep in mind the lyrics of the song I quoted yesterday. View the Broadway video (you can skip the ad) here.

You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught
From year to year,
It’s got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a different shade,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

In Christ,

John
