Caldwell Family:
On this first day of Spring, it’s impossible not to think about rebirth. As Christians, this is the defining narrative of our lives – “the old has passed away; see, everything is new.” (2 Corinthians 5). So it is in so many ways at our resurrected church, brimming with new life in all of its phases. With Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter so near, we see signs all around us. A few for you to keep in mind:
1. Tomorrow after worship, we will hold a reception to celebrate the ministry of our intern, Veronica Rogers. Veronica is with us a little while longer but we wanted to be sure to say ‘thank you’ before the events of the next few weeks. Veronica has touched many lives at Caldwell in a short period of time. A woman of uncommon wisdom, she has been a gift. Please join us to celebrate the new life she has brought to us, particularly in the ministry of congregational care.
2. Please keep Maggie Devries in your thoughts and prayers as she celebrates the life of her mother, Mary Ann Blackwood. Mrs. Blackwood died Thursday after a period of declining health. Maggie has been steadfast in her care and love of her mother, who loved to visit Caldwell.
3. Fred Powers returned home Thursday and continues to recuperate well. Fred is in great spirits and hopes to be in church tomorrow. He is deeply grateful for the healing support and prayers of the church.
4. We all continue to pray for Sue Aivaz and her family as she prepares for her own rebirth in death. Sue’s faith is rock solid, the very foundation of her life. We celebrate her even as we prepare ourselves for losing her.
In all these ways, the old has passed away and everything is new. We are ministered to, healed and, when life is over, sent with ‘traveling mercies’ to see God face to face. This is the message of Lent and Easter. Thanks be to God. See you tomorrow.
John
