Let me start with a quick reminder that the initial organizational and informational meeting about NC Faithful is tonight at 6. We expect members or pastors from at least a half-dozen other congregations to join us as we learn more about recent legislation restricting voter access. We will turn to the Gospel for perspective and discuss how we can all continue to bring a faithful response to public policy issues in NC. Please park in our rear lot or across Park Ave. from our rear lot at the school/Independence Park parking lot if you can.
This Sunday will be another busy one for us. In worship, we will conclude our summer study of the book of Acts. Acts closes with the word “open,” in one translation. What better word does the church at large need to hear but the call to open itself to all comers and all possibilities in God’s sight? Adult Sunday school will look at the 6th chapter of Ephesians as it moves toward the end of its study of Eugene Peterson’s book about living a resurrected life.
Whether we are allies or members of the LGBT community, many are planning to walk in the Pride Parade Sunday at 1 pm. So, we will forego announcements and start church promptly at 11:00, aiming to end at noon. Kathy Baldock, the “Canyon Walker” who works with all kinds of churches in their outreach to the LGBT community, will bring a brief but important message about the role allies can play in accelerating our society’s movement toward full equality.
I am cutting and pasting below a note from Johnny Johnson with more details about the parade.
In Christ,
John

Hello All! This is a reminder that the Charlotte Pride Parade is this SUNDAY, 8/25. A big group from Caldwell will be marching together. Below are the details, in case you did not obtain a flyer this past Sunday! Dress festively and comfortably!! Thanks for your support! Johnny
„«Come to church dressed comfortably and ready to march!
„«Participants will have to leave worship early (around noon), we will be dismissed with the Pastor¡¦s blessings.
„«In consideration of others, parade participants are asked to sit in the rear of the sanctuary.
„«We can caravan or carpool to uptown. The parade kicks off at Tryon and 9th and we have a deployment spot at 11th and Tryon, in front of NCDT studio. Best bet is to park at 7th Street Station (or near there) and we will meet in front of Spirit Square (corner of 7th and Tryon) and make our way to our designated spot. If you come to Spirit Square and we are not there, proceed up to 11th Street!
„«Unfortunately there is no time for lunch. If you need to eat, please pack a sandwich (you can use refrigerator in Fellowship Hall) and you will have time to eat while we stand and wait. Same goes for water. There are food and beverage vendors in the festival area on S. Tryon.
„«Come ready to have fun . . . this is a celebration, NOT a protest!!
„«Let us know if you are interested in manning the Caldwell booth during festival hours Saturday or Sunday!
„« Questions, help, lost??
