Eyes, Needles and the Business of the Church

We give thanks that Caldwell House has been extended through 2013.

Dear Caldwell,

I trust this finds you safe at home – or about to be there – as the winter weather comes in. Come Sunday, it will be sunny again and we will worship the Lord.

Pastoral Assistant Liz Wagner will preach on the familiar passage about the “eye of the needle” (Mark 10:17-31) but will remind us that nothing is impossible with God. We will ordain and install new officers and hold the Annual Business Meeting of the Congregation, where a brief state of the church and financial report will be provided.

It has been a good week for two of our key on-campus ministries. The Charlotte Bilingual Preschool reopened yesterday and Caldwell House has been funded through the end of the year. The January edition of the Caldwell Good News! will be out with full coverage. You can also read the Observer’s story about Caldwell House here:

In the adult Sunday School, we are engaged in a wonderful study of what Jesus teaches us about ministry to the poor and disadvantaged in the Gospel of Luke. Spiritual writer Henri Nouwen wrote: “Our care for the poor becomes the way to meet the Lord. The more we give, help, support, guide, counsel, and visit, the more we receive, not just similar gifts but the Lord’s own self. To go to the poor is to go to the Lord….”

We at Caldwell are truly blessed to be granted more time to help our neighbors at Caldwell house however we can to help them stabilize their lives and move on to better housing. We will bring all of this and more to the Lord together on Sunday. See you then.

In Christ,

John
