Gathering, Praying, Hearing, Healing

Dear Caldwell,

After such a painful and wearying week, many of us may feel the need to gather with others, to listen to each other, to pray and heal and seek peace and justice. We have two opportunities this weekend.

This afternoon, my colleague Rev. Clifford Matthews invited us to take part in a service of healing and prayer with his African-American congregation tomorrow (Sunday) at 4 p.m. It is St. Luke’s Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 Norris Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206. Their website here. We have been building a relationship with their clergy leadership and I am grateful for this invitation.

And, as previously shared, Caldwell hosts an open mike night tonight at 8 pm in The Third Place with the Artist’s Den, a Charlotte group that advances reconciliation through the arts. Our congregation is heartily invited. This is a chance to share our space, hear voices of “the other” and build a more abiding peace and understanding. More on a Facebook link here.

I hope to see you at these events and also tomorrow morning for worship.

In Christ,

John
