Hometown Boy Makes Good

Dear Caldwell,

We all love to claim even a little connection to fame. For example, earlier this week, the Observer ran an interview with a player in Sunday’s Super Bowl who grew up here. Now many Charlotteans will be looking for him to do well Sunday night.

The people in Nazareth were no different when Jesus came through. He had been creating quite a buzz around the region. Now the hometown boy was back and all came to listen to what he had to say. Only, he said what they least expected. We will take a look at that story Sunday in Luke 4:21-30.

It will be a busy day for other reasons:

  • Newcomers Class Begins: At 9:45 a.m., all Newcomers (define that however you wish) are invited to the first of a series of classes that will explain more about life here at Caldwell. It’s also a great way to meet other newcomers. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Child care for little ones will be available.
  • Adult Sunday School: Continues its study of Luke. This week focuses on the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37, 17:11-19). 9:45 in the Shelby Room.
  • New Members: Immediately after worship, the session will meet to receive anyone who would like to make Caldwell their church home. If you have any questions about that, feel free to call me at 704-957-4511.
  • Souper Bowl of Caring: After worship, all are invited to a simple lunch of soup and bread to support our youth as they raise funds to fight hunger on a local level. Come, enjoy fellowship, learn and help feed others. Please drop off any ingredients for soup you may want to contribute in the Fellowship Hall before worship begins.

One final important note: Tomorrow, Saturday at 11 a.m., we will hold a memorial service for Mike Middleton. If you are coming, you may want to arrive early as we expect a full house. A reception will follow with food prepared by Mike’s friends.

As always, our “life together” is full. Come and be filled even more as we journey,

In Christ,

John
