Dear Caldwell,
OK, scripture doesn’t say it that way exactly, but that is Will Davis’ plain-English summary of his sermon tomorrow about “A God Who Comes to Us and Keeps on Coming,” As we progress in this season of Eastertide, the concept of community arises as a key principle in what would become the Christian church. It is there in the Gospels, but the primary focus is on Jesus. Now, with Jesus risen, the apostles and other followers of Christ have to figure out how to carry on in his name … in community, as a community, to the community at large.
I look forward to hearing Will’s message about that community of “friends” and how they came to understand the truth of Easter through God’s abiding presence. We will also “be community” as we share communion, the other “Easter gift” Jesus left us.
For us at Caldwell, we can celebrate being community in Christ’s name in several other ways tomorrow:
- The session will meet to receive new members immediately after worship. If you have been looking for a church home and have come to know Caldwell – or if you have questions about life here – please attend, to join or to learn more.
- Immediately after worship, we will hold a reception celebration for Will Davis and Phanta Lansden as they conclude their internships with us. What a blessing they have been, each in their own ways. Come and celebrate their ministry hear and the ministry God will call them to when they are finished with seminary.
- Earlier, we are all invited by Adult Christian Education for coffee and fellowship available at 9:30 am and the first discussion of The Resurrected Jesus at 9:45 with the only requirement being that you come. Caldwell House breakfast begins with prep at 7 or so and serving at 8:30.View Post
- Also, a reminder for those identified to help facilitate the upcoming “3D” small group conversations, your orientation is at 3 pm in Fellowship Hall.
- All high school youth are reminded of tomorrow night’s important meeting at 6 pm in the sanctuary to plan Youth Sunday next week.
Tom Bohr continues his recovery and is hopeful to go home this weekend, pending some minor issues. Please also keep in prayer Rev. Dr. Charlie MacDonald, the wise pastor who helped God resurrect Caldwell, who has had some small strokes recently and is a bit off balance but as sharp as ever. He is seeing several doctors to find an answer.
Please look for and introduce yourself to our two newest members (pictured here). Both Chris and Billy bring distinct gifts and callings to Caldwell. We give thanks that our community is strengthened by them.
See you tomorrow.
In Christ,
John
