Dear Caldwell,
I know I join many of you in prayers for all those affected by “Sandy,” which include family members and other loved ones of our own family here at Caldwell. In addition to the many first-response and disaster-relief efforts underway, our own Presbytery has a trailer and trained relief workers and is working to determine where those resources can be a part of the recovery.
I wanted you to be aware of several items:
1. Thanks to all who returned their Discipleship pledge forms last Sunday, Commitment Sunday. If you have not returned yours, please do so via US mail or bring it to worship on Sunday and put it in the offering plate. If you need a packet with resources and forms, call Leslie in the church office at 704-334-0825. Prompt returns will help the session begin to plan for the church’s scope of ministries next year. Pledges of time, talent and financial resources – of any size – are an essential a part of our life in faith.
2. Please hold three church families who have lost family members in prayer: Diane Huff lost her mother, Ollie Huff, who loved to worship at Caldwell. A memorial service for “Miss Ollie” will be held in Florida Wednesday. Also, as you may have read on the Yahoogroup earlier from Veronica, Troy Bowles lost his brother, Woodrow Redfern. Woodrow’s wake will be held at Trinity Park Baptist Church, 9115 Trinity Road, Charlotte 28216 on Thursday evening, November 1 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral services will be held on Friday in Wadesboro, NC. Also, Felicia Pine has returned from New York, where she attended the funeral for her sister in law.
3. Keep in mind that this Sunday will blend the Reformed tradition of All Saints Day with the Latino tradition of the Day of the Dead, when deceased loved ones are especially remembered. If you would like to, remember to bring an item for our Ofrenda that stands for a lost loved one in your family or experience.
4. Do you need to relax and restore your body? Do you anticipate being even more stressed after the election and as we get closer to the holidays? We have just want you need. A new member of the Caldwell family will begin leading classes in “restorative yoga” two weeks from today, Nov. 13. Restorative yoga helps stretch and relax the body and fits almost all levels of physical fitess. The weekly classes will be held every Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. No pre-registration needed. Just come! IF you own a yoga mat, bring it. If not, one will be provided.
I will be back in touch soon. In the meantime, may the Lord be with you there and all those who have been affected by this week’s storms.
Yours In Christ,
John
