New Life, New Beginnings

A symbol of Spring appears in the background, a butterfly bush full of new growth surrounds our old cross. In the foreground, produce reaches for the sun in our best garden Spring to date.

Dear Caldwell,

As people of faith, we are “Easter people,” a claim that “all things are made new in Christ.” This weekend, the fifth in the season of Easter, we make several new beginnings:

1. In worship, Pastoral Assistant Liz Wagner will helps us consider Peter’s account in Acts 11 of his call to see with new eyes, putting aside cultural and religious blinders. Liz will do so for adults and children in a creative way that encourages us to practice a little Godly Play, the rich form of teaching we use with our youngest children.

2. Commencements are another form of new beginnings. Please note that both Liz and former intern Danny Trapp will graduate from Union Presbyterian Seminary-Charlotte tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Sharon Presbyterian Church. We give thanks for their endurance in completing the rigors of their study. No tickets are required, in case you would like to attend.

3. We welcome yet another new intern  this Sunday! Abong Fankam, a student at Union, member of Selwyn Presbyterian and a native of Cameroon, joins us to work about 30 hours a week through July. Please greet her and introduce yourself.

4. Finally, our cherished former pastor, Rev. Charlie MacDonald celebrates a birthday Sunday, beginning another “new year” for him and his family. I will have a card for us all to sign for him on Sunday.

Spring rains are headed our way tomorrow but I hope you will enjoy’ today’s beautiful weather in our God’s creation.

In Christ,

John
