Dear Caldwell,
Grace and peace to you this day. As the weekend approaches, my prayers are for your rest and recuperation. A few words about Sunday ….
- In the final sermon of her internship with us, Abong Fankam will relate several Biblical stories that share the common theme of how God often uses very concrete things to remind us of our redemption: For Joseph’s father, Jacob, it was the bloody coat Joseph’s brother’s presented. For Peter, it was the crow of a cock that reminded him of his betrayal of Christ. Object lessons like this can immediately put us in touch with God’s help in turning adversity into something good, mistakes into ministry.
- Before worship, at 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall, all newcomers (members, friends, visitors) are invited to begin a Newcomers Class with Evie and me. This starts a series of classes to cover a range of topics, including the roots and meaning of being Presbyterian, how to get more involved at Caldwell, how the church works, a campus tour and how to meet others here.
- The Adult Christian Education class, Shelby Room 9:45, continues study of Practice Resurrection: a conversation on growing up in Christ by Eugene Peterson. Please don’t avoid coming if you haven’t “done the reading.” This is a highly welcoming and interactive class. On Sunday, Linda Matney leads on Ephesians 4:1-16, a lesson titled “One and All.”
- As always, breakfast and devotion with the women of Caldwell House – prep at 7 a.m. and meal at 8:30.
After worship:
- We will celebrate Abong’s time with us as an intern during our regular fellowship time.
- The second 3D town hall will follow immediately after that reception in the Fellowship Hall. This is a chance for all who have not had a a chance to be in a 3D small group to offer ideas an input on three important areas of church life: Youth and Children’s Ministry; Use of our Campus and Congregational Care and Fellowship.
Finally, if you are interested in attending the last of the Moral Monday gatherings in Raleigh, a group from Caldwell will be going. The gathering is centered on worship and singers are invited to participate in a mass choir. If interested in attending and/or singing, please identify yourself to Anne or me.
See you Sunday!
In Christ,
John
