Dear Caldwell –
Item # 1: God treated us all to a new glimpse of the kingdom on Sunday when we were graced by 80+ friends from the Bilngual School Community. What a wonderful experience it was. We are indebted to Zach and Sally Thomas and Kitty Bohr for helping organize the service, as well as all those who helped teach the kids in Sunday school. Zach’s fine sermon is posted at http://www.caldwellpresby.org/docs/10_31_10_Goodness_and_Faith.pdf. Now we know what 250 people feel like in our sanctuary! I welcome your thoughts and reflections on the experience and what considerations the church should make about ongoing worship and other ministries with our Latino neighbors.
Item # 2 – Do you have room to house a special guest for the nights of Nov. 12 and 13? As part of our initiation of the Godly Play curriculuum for our preschoolers, a trainer is coming to teach parents and teachers how the curriculuum works. We need a Caldwell home to step forward to house her those nights. Please let me know if that house can be yours.
Item # 3 – Don’t forget that the Women of Caldwell meet tonight at 6:30 at church. Also, our devotions with our shelter guests will begin a study of women of the Bible this Thursday at 7:30 upstairs in the Price Building.
Item #4 – Please see the item below from our friends at a sister church.
Living and Loving in God’s Wider Welcome
On November 13 at 7:00p.m., Holy Covenant United Church of Christ, with support from the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund, will host an event to offer hope and welcome to LGBT people who’ve been hurt by religious intolerance and to strengthen houses of faith in their journey toward inclusivity.
Rev. Michael PiazzaHoly Covenant is pleased to bring to Charlotte the Rev. Michael Piazza–social justice advocate and dean of Cathedral of Hope, the world’s largest liberal Christian church with primary outreach to LGBT people.Early on, The Advocate named Rev. Piazza one of the most influential people in the LGBT movement, and under his courageous leadership, his church is proclaiming Christianity as a faith of extravagant grace, radical inclusion and relentless compassion. |
Come and hear Rev. Piazza and participate in a conversation that points us beyond judgment to reconciliation and hope in God’s embrace. The conversation will be followed by a reception and book signing. Sotto Voce, an ensemble from Charlotte’s gay-affirming chorus One Voice, will perform during the event.
– If you’ve struggled with rejection from the church because of your sexual orientation or gender identification . . .
– If you attend a church struggling to find the spiritual impetus to open its doors more widely to the LGBT community .
– If your house of faith is already “there” in terms of inclusivity and looking for an event to serve its members . . .
Make plans to attend this free event November 13, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at Holy Covenant, 3501 West W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28269 .
