Dear Caldwell,
As we hear cries of “emergency” and “crisis” in Washington to describe what’s happening on the U.S.-Mexico border, one of our own is headed there to see for himself. And he wants to be our eyes and ears, heart and soul, arms and legs as we all seek answers about how to convey God’s gift of hospitality.
Richard Harrison leaves today to travel to the border with friends at Myers Park Methodist Church. He will report back to us and invites your questions as he spends a week witnessing and praying with those whose lives lead them to seek a better life in America.
So, send me your questions or your prayers for Richard to take with him as our “ambassador for Christ,” as the Apostle Paul said. Email me at jcleghorn@caldwellpresby.org and watch for posts in the next week with Richard’s reports.
Meanwhile, back at Caldwell, we continue to use our faith as we reflect in Black History Month. Gail brings the Word Sunday, preaching from Jeremiah 17:5-10 and Luke 6:17-26 in a sermon titled “Nevertheless, She Persisted.” She will draw on scripture and the civil rights movement. Janie Lownes offers “A Word I Heard” and we sing and hear music only by Black composers and hymn writers.
See you there.
In Christ,
John
