Rich and Poor, Responsibility and Retributiion

Dear Caldwell,

It will be good to see you again this Sunday. It’s been an historic week for our city, one with many promising angles, one when we can take some appropriate pride in the enormous effort so many put forth to host the DNC.

But it will be good to re-settle ourselves, too, to reground our beings in who we are and whose we are before we are Democrat or Republican or anything else. We are given two provocative and challenging scriptures this week. So, to give them both their due, I will start another two-part series. This one will focus on our responsibility to/for the poor among us. Our Lord has a great sense of timing. Even those these come from the lectionary (guide to preaching the Bible passage by passage), they come at a good time.

An added feature, given that it is the Sunday closest to 9-11, our friend and resident Muslim Johnnie Frazier will share a few thoughts that will help us better understand that fast-growing faith and what we as Christians have in common with our Muslim brothers and sisters.

Sunday school at 9:45 begins a new study. Breakfast with Caldwell House at 8:30. See you soon.

In Christ,

John
