Dear Caldwell,
As you’ve heard me say on Sundays, one of the best metaphors for the life of faith is that of being on a journey. We walk together, each of us at our own particular pace and following different paths, all toward an understanding of our God and Creator made manifest in Christ Jesus. A few of our shared steps this week:
- Julianne Watson, mother of Caldwell friend Jennifer Roberts and her husband (our faithful keyboardist) Manley Roberts has died after a prolonged illness. Tonight’s visitation and other details are in this obituaryhttp://www.legacy.com/obituaries/charlotte/obituary.aspx?n=julianne-kauffman-watson&pid=154026593. We will all keep Jennifer, Manley, their children and their family in our prayers as they reflect on and celebrate a life well and actively lived.
- If you were in church Sunday, you heard a bit about our newest three members. I’ve posted their photo so you can put names with faces and welcome them by name next time you see them.
- This coming Sunday is Discipleship Commitment Sunday as we seek to wrap up our Discipleship Campaign. Please take a few minutes to fill out the pledge cards you’ve received in the mail (call the church if you need them) and bring them to church this Sunday, where we will dedicate our gifts to God’s use. With a goal of 100% participation, it’s important that everyone make a pledge as soon as possible. Last Sunday’s sermon, “Whose Kingdom? Whose Coin?”, on our role as disciples in the building the kingdom of heaven on earth is attached here. http://caldwellpresby.org/docs/100611_Whose%20Kingdom.pdf
- You can now call Veronica Rogers “Pastor-elect.” As you may have seen in the note from Beth Van Gorp, Veronica completed her steps on her journey to prepare for ordination yesterday, preaching a word of much-needed encouragement and passing her examination in front of the full Presbytery. Thanks to the 16 supporters who drove to Union County in the rain to stand in support, and mark your calendars for her ordination service here Nov. 13 at 4 p.m.
- We keep Richard Harrison in our prayers as he returns to Charlotte after burying his late son and we pray the he be surrounded by God’s peace and held in God’s strong arms.
May God’s grace cover you in the remaining days of the week and may God’s light illumine your own journey under God’s care.
Yours in Christ,
John
