“Where, O death, is your sting?”
– 1 Corinthians 15:55
Dear Caldwell,
With the above scripture in mind, theologian Karl Barth’s thoughts were captured in an essay titled “The Death of Death.” In it, he wrote, “Our death is our limit, but our God is also the limit of our death.”
With that in mind, this Sunday in worship we will wrap up (for now, at least) our conversation about life, death and what comes next. (I hope you received a mailing from the church this week with resources to help plan for our memorial services.) We do so by marking the Ascension of Jesus and its end to the season of Eastertide, a 40-day celebration of Easter. We will take a look at Acts 1:6-11 (the Ascension story) and Romans 12:1-2, where Paul discusses “transformation,” a timely topic as our small-group 3D conversations continue.
Sunday is also Mothers Day and we will also welcome new members and pray over our Vision Team as it begins preparation for its trip to Guatemala in the fall. The ACE Class (Adult Christian Education) continues its conversation about the resurrected Jesus. Caldwell House breakfast is served at 8:30 (come and enjoy) or come to help prepare it at 7:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
A quick reminder: Don’t forget that the church picnic is a week away, May 18, 12:30-5 at Veteran’s Park.
See you then.
In Christ,
John
