The Comfort of Community

Our Communion Table prepared for La Posada

Dear Caldwell,

Like many of you, I suppose, I’ve watched my share of CNN in the last 12 hours. Today, we have a chance to do something else that is important – to share love and fellowship in community as a way of dealing with our grief.

In one sense, our first La Posada celebration this afternoon has not been organized and prepared with the circumstances of the last 24 hours in mind. In another, however, it may provide just what you need today – a chance to get out of the house, gather with other believers,  hold candles, walk in a procession with those of many walks of life, worship the Lord, celebrate community, lift up little children, build bridges, enjoy great Latino foods and learn new traditions.

In that spirit, then, you are invited.  We will gather in Belk Hall beginning around 4:30. Around 5 p.m., before we begin the procession through the park, with Joseph, Mary and a donkey, we will observe a moment of silence to remember those whom our nation has lost.

In Christ,

John
