The Rhythms of Life Together

Back in Session: This youngster is among the Latino pre-schoolers learning every day through a special program for four-year olds. Thanks be to God that the Charlotte Bilingual Preschool is open again at Caldwell.

Dear Caldwell,

One of the gifts I have found in the life of a pastor is that each week has its own rhythms. These rhythms reflect the highs and lows of our church family. In this way, we practice what Frederick Buechner called “life together,” life that is, as we often say here, “in Christ.” In that spirit, I wanted you to have these event dates and times.

Mike Middleton

1. Service for Mike Middleton: We will gather here this Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m.to celebrate Mike’s life and take comfort in the promise of the resurrection. The service will weave together many aspects of Mike’s life. It will be followed by a reception. We are all still a bit numb from the news of his death and I pray the service will help in our healing and closure. Caldwell did not know Mike long but he touched many here quickly and he leaves behind a large space that won’t be easily filled. As you may have seen in the news, police have made an arrest in his slaying. Here is a brief profile of Mike from the Observer: www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/01/26/3814851/slain-man-described-as-selfless.html#storylink=misearch

2. Newcomers Class Starts Sunday: If you are new to Caldwell and/or want to know more about life here (what it means to be Presbyterian at Caldwell, how to get involved, how our campus is being used by others in ministry, etc), please join us for a Newcomers series of classes beginning Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. It’s a great way to meet other newcomers and to learn more about what God is doing here.

3. Souper Bowl of Caring: Plan to grab a simple lunch of bread and soup this Sunday after worship for fellowship and to support our youth as they raise funds to fight hunger on a local level. Always an informative and “filling” event.

I will be back in touch later this week. In the meantime, “may God be with you there.”

In Christ,

John
