Dear Caldwell,
It’s a joy for me today to think about you, your faces and your many forms of witness to God’s grace and justice.
On Sunday, we considered the preposterous “what if” of Romans 13, Paul’s notion that the fulfillment of law is simply (or not so) to love. We’ll start there tonight on the Preachers’ Porch but also move to consider the texts for this coming Sunday, which are Psalm 121, Isaiah 52, Matthew 14:23. None other than Sally Herlong will lead us in the discussion and sharing. Grab something to sip and come to the porch.
Another big item in our life together is that we are all getting ready for the 21-day challenge to deepen our understanding of what it means to be anti-racist. As Gail and I noted in worship on Sunday, any journey requires preparation. So, please click here and review the range of materials that will be available for this daily discipline. We begin Sept. 8.
Finally, two videos.
Click here to watch a video of the groundbreaking Sunday – this one is from Clancy and Theys, our general contractor. Click here to watch a news story featuring Rev. Justin Martin recounting his experience getting pepper sprayed. He helped promote the concerns the Charlotte Clergy Coalition for Justice has put forth about how we can re-imagine policing. Thanks, brother Justin.
Gail is off this week – so pray for her peace, rest and restoration on a well-deserved break.
In Christ,
John
