Transfiguration

Dear Caldwell,

Tomorrow we read a story in Luke that sets the stage for the season of the church that is just ahead, Lent (yes, already!). Luke tells of a day when God affirms Jesus as the Messiah in a most wondrous way. As with Moses on Mt. Sinai, Jesus’ face is changed, literally and figuratively, and he is prepared to move toward what awaits him in Jerusalem. For each of us, it is an occasion to “set our face” for Lent, as well as our hearts and minds. Will Davis will preach on this in a message entitled “God’s Time Is Breaking Into Our  Time.” Wilma Petty will bring us another moment in Black History.

Also tomorrow:

  • Caldwell House breakfast – prep at 7/7:30 am, serving at 8:30. Please note that we still need some help tomorrow.
  • Newcomers class at 9:45. Even if you are not a “newcomer” you may want to attend as Rev. Dr. Diane Mowrey, Caldwell’s Parish Associate Minister,  will teach on the roots of Presbyterianism and why some of us like to quote John Calvin a lot (even if we are sometimes cracking a joke). Please note we are moving to the Fellowship Hall.
  • Adult Sunday school continues its study of the Gospel of Luke and its focus on the poor.
  • Young Adults will gather in the Fellowship Hall at 6 pm for dinner, fellowship and discussion of plans and organization for study, fun and service. Come to meet others and get to know Intern in Ministry Phanta Lansden.

Please keep in prayer new member Wayne Russell and his family, following the death of Wayne’s father, Lawrence Robert Russell Jr. of Hendersonville. Also, today Yvette and William Wilson are attending the memorial service of William’s brother. Finally, the reality of Mike Middleton’s passing no doubt set it on many of his friends this week. We stand with all of these families and friends as they take comfort in the promise of the resurrection.

May the Lord be with them there and each of you, wherever you are today.

In Christ,

John
