{An update on the Guatemala Mission Team sent by team member Beth Van Gorp}
We’ve had another great day here in beautiful Guatemala. For the second day in a row we saw the Fuego (fire) Volcano emitting ash. But the skies are clear and sunny.
One highlight of today included a wonderful morning and early afternoon of cooking with a group of women that Sally worked closely with. It really brought tears to our eyes to see how excited the women and Sally were to see each other. Our North American dish was a great almond cake and the Salvador dish was paches. Little did we know the labor intensive process of cooking, peeling, and mashing 25 lbs of potatoes, chopping and cooking a half dozen different vegetables, blending up the ingredients, and then wrapping them in mancha leaves (kind of like banana leaves.) We really enjoyed a wonderful time with lots of laughter. We enjoyed these for dinner tonight and I’m sure the families of our new friends did as well.
John and Leroy put up two walls on the home we are helping build. Leroy is the big man on campus (el hombre grande as they call him here.) Zach and Elise also led an exercise class and Marilyn is geared up for a big day of making quilts tomorrow.
We’re grateful for your support and prayers. Zach challneged us tonight to see the face of Jesus in the faces of our new Guatemalan friends and I expect that will happen because the people are so wonderful and yet experience so many daily challenges.
Thanks everyone for your support!
Beth
