What Do YOU Say?

Dear Caldwell,

On Sunday, we wrestled with one of scripture’s most oft-quoted sayings of Jesus, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Tonight, I’d love to hear what YOU think.

Come to the Preachers’ Porch at 7 pm via Zoom (see prior email) to share in how you hear that portion of Jesus’ farewell discourse in John 14:1-7. Plenty of room to debate or disagree with how Gail and I broke it down Sunday or take it in a new direction. We will also look at what Jesus went on to say in John:15-21 as we look ahead to John’s sermon this Sunday.

What we DO know about this Sunday’s sermon is that we hear an important word from Jesus – that we are not alone, that we have an advocate in the Holy Spirit sent to be with us. That’s a needed word in these days when we can feel so alone, so separated.

Otherwise this week, your church family will meet for Caldwell Live tomorrow (Wednesday), 5:30 to 7 p.m. just to visit. Thursday at 8 p.m., Lia Benton and Anne will lead vespers.

If you’re looking to join in the work of the church, the Christian Formation Committee meets tonight to discuss education for all age groups and the Worship Committee meets Thursday at 6 p.m. Either committee would welcome new members and participants. Contact me if you would like to be a part of either of those Zoom calls.

Congratulations to Doreen Byrd on her election to the session at Sunday’s Congregational Meeting. She will be installed in the weeks to come.

How is worship going for you on Sundays? Any ideas are input are welcome.

Finally, please keep Gail close in heart this week as she preaches and is examined by the Presbytery Committee on Ministry, the next-to-last step in her journey to ordination. She will stand before the entire Presbytery for final approval next Tuesday and you can tune in for that. Stay tuned for the Zoom link.

Please keep Leroy Stinson and his entire family in mind and in prayer.

In Christ, John
